Managing Goals

"If your dreams don't scare you they aren't BIG enough"

We're not here to scare you, but we do want you to dream big and we are here to try and make those dreams become a reality. This is where it all starts - savings goals!

A saving goal means identifying an amount of money that you need to save in order to purchase something. It can be a small thing such as a toy or mp3. Or it can be a big thing such as a bike or jacket - or a really big thing such as a car or deposit for a house.

Setting savings goals is a great way to achieve these things. People who set goals save faster than those that don't. Getting into the habit of regularly saving for something will see you realise those goals quicker than you think. Got it? Great. Let's get started.

Step 1. Give your goal a name

Give the goal a name (e.g. My Bike) or use the name of the item that you are saving towards.

Step 2. Say something about your goal.

Describe it, explain why you want it, what you will use it for or how it will change your life. It's up to you what you write so be as creative as you like.

Remember that if you invite your family and friends to help you try and achieve this goal they will read your description.

Step 3. Work out how much you need to save

This can simply be the cost of the item or the amount of money you need in order to purchase it. For more complicated things such as University fees, use our calculators to do the number crunching for you

Step 4. Upload an image of the item.

If you don't have an image then you can use one of our photos or icons

Step 5. Give yourself a deadline or target.

If you have a date you are saving for, you are more likely to reach it. A goal without a deadline can drag on and is less likely to be achieved.

Set 6. Click "Save"

Congratulations. You've taken your first step to reaching that goal. Good luck - we hope you reach it soon!

Inviting others

Now that you're on your way, you may like to get some help from family and friends - especially if they don't know what to get you for birthdays or christmas. You may even do some odd jobs for others as a way of reaching those goals.

We've written some emails for you. Feel free to choose one that is appropriate. You're able to edit it as you wish or write your own email from scratch.
